Our Programs: As a pacesetter in the field of psychoanalysis and its applications, the White Institute offers a wide variety of options for professionals.  Read this section for a an overview of the duration of each program and the credentials that applicants bring to each educational experience.

 

Psychoanalytic Training:  These exceptional programs offercandidates an immersion in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. The programs foster study of the depths of human experience, focusing on the person as a social being, and on human behavior as interpersonal communication.

 

Child & Adolescent PsychotherapyAn innovative, intensive program that presents a pluralistic approach to the psychodynamic understanding of the treatment of children from infancy through late adolescence.

 

Eating Disorders, Compulsions & Addictions:  A course of study that integrates the concepts of Interpersonal Psychoanalysis with those of other treatment modalities and provides a concentrated, practice-oriented educational experience to mental health professionals who work in these areas.

 

Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy: A practice oriented educational experience for working clinicians who wish to apply an Interpersonal psychoanalytic perspective to their work with patients.

 

Online Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program (Online IPPP)An online version of our popular course. This practice oriented, totally interactive educational program is designed for working clinicians who wish to learn the Interpersonal psychoanalytic perspective but are unable to come to New York City to participate in our in-person program.

 

This is a totally interactive Online program offering 28 weeks of instruction on four select topics from an Interpersonal perspective. The program begins in January, 2023 and includes an overview of the contributions of four seminal White Institute interpersonalists: Edgar Levenson, Stephen Mitchell, Philip Bromberg and Jay Greenberg. The work of these important Interpersonal thinkers will be taught by senior White Insitute faculty.

 

 

Online Interpersonal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program for Russian Speakers: This is a two-year online program designed exclusively for Russian-speaking mental health practitioners who would like to learn about the interpersonal/relational tradition of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Including both theoretical and clinical discussions, the program aims to enhance clinical skills and theoretical understanding of working with diverse patient populations. The program includes weekly clinical theory seminars and clinical case discussions.

 

The Couples Therapy Training and Education Program (CTTEP): A practice-focused educational program that integrates didactics and intensive case study from Interpersonal Psychoanalytic-Systemic Couples Therapy perspectives.

 

Challenges of Working With Kids in the 21st Century: Special Topics in Child & Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: a unique program for clinicians of all levels of experience, starting in January 2020.  Today’s children and adolescents are growing up in a challenging and complicated world.  Clinicians’ awareness of the changing cultural climate while treating this population is pivotal. This year’s program focuses on contemporary clinical topics while working with children and adolescents within an Interpersonal and Relational framework.   Each month different faculty members will present on a current clinical topic, illustrated with case material. This program is designed to expand and deepen participants’ clinical skills and intellectual understanding of psychodynamic psychotherapy of children and adolescents within our changing world.

 

The Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship is a one to two-year, half-time Fellowship for qualifying postdoctoral psychologists. Postdoctoral Fellows have the opportunity to work intensively under the supervision of graduates of the Institute's Certificate Program in Psychoanalysis. In addition, Fellows participate in didactic seminars and clinical case conferences. Fellows receive fees for services and may obtain all or a portion of the clinical hours required for clinicians with limited permits to become New York State licensed psychologists.
