The Child & Family Center’s approach in working with children, adolescents, and families is based on an understanding that all human experience is fundamentally interpersonal. Children are most usefully understood in the context of their relationships, their families, their schools, and their socio-cultural environments. Our staff are highly trained child mental health professionals.

The Center is directed by senior clinicians who have administered and supervised work with children for many years in private practice, clinics, schools, hospitals, and agencies. We offer our neighborhood and the surrounding community a variety of services for children and families that address a wide range of problems. These include (but are not limited to) issues such as attentional disorders, bullying, behavior problems, school refusal, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, dealing with divorce, autistic spectrum and other developmental disorders, and children living with medical conditions.

In all our services, we provide a direct, flexible, active, and collaborative attitude in the effort to engage the youngster, family, school, or organization. Years of clinical expertise, combined with a warm, open-minded, non-authoritarian stance, allow us to make a difference for the people we serve. We especially value the creation of linkages within a family, between a family and a school, and among all the professionals involved working with a child.

The Center’s services include individual and group psychotherapy for children and adolescents, parent counseling, psychiatric consultation and medication evaluation, clinical interventions with developmental issues.

The Center also provides psychoeducational evaluation of emotional problems and learning difficulties. Using an extensive battery of psychological tests, we offer an integration of factors including intelligence, academic functioning, neuropsychological issues, and personality features to clarify underlying reasons for problems that perplex parents and teachers. Fees for psychological testing are substantially below private practice fees for comparable services. Download the psychoeducational evaluation application by clicking here, or call 212-873-7070 for more information.

The Center further provides regular consultation to schools and agencies in New York City. We provide workshops for staff and parents at various agencies that focus on important issues of childhood and adolescence. Therapists from our center work at various community sites where they provide services. Currently we are consulting to an after school program for preschoolers and their families and to an agency providing parental support for older adolescents on the autism spectrum.
