Eating Disorders, Compulsions & Addictions

In recent years the number of patients seeking treatment for eating disorders and substance abuse problems has increased dramatically.  The demand for in-depth treatment has also grown as the problems of addiction and compulsion remain prevalent in our society.

 

There are many treatment options for the early stages of recovery but few for those who want to go beyond behavioral change to the deep shifts in character that psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy offer.  Concurrently, there have been changes in traditional psychoanalysis that make it possible to address the underlying character problems and to study the process of analysis with these populations.

Since its inception, the William Alanson White Institute has been involved in helping people with problems in living.  Interpersonal perspectives and techniques offer analytic opportunities to patients with a history of addiction who want to attain the deepest level of change.

Services Offered to Professionals

 

The White Institute offers professionals a highly regarded 32 week Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Educational program as fully described in the Training and Education section of this website.  In addition, the Eating Disorders Compulsions and Addictions Service also offers the following educational services for interested mental health clinicians:

	Individual Supervision

How to Apply for Treatment

If you would like to apply for treatment at our clinic or with a member of the Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Service staff, please download the application and send  a completed copy to the White Institute Clinic at 20 West 74^th Street, New York, NY 10023.  Please write, “Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions” on your application and include a $40 fee with your completed forms.  The Institute staff member who receives your application will make every effort to arrange an intake interview as quickly as possible.

 

 

Fees for Psychotherapy

Fees for psychotherapy are set according to a moderate sliding scale, the type of psychotherapy, and patient need. We also accept many insurance plans.

 

Staff of the Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Service

All clinicians are psychiatrists or clinicians with doctoral degrees who are either graduates or current matriculants of the William Alanson White program in psychoanalysis. They are trained in working with the special concerns of those experiencing a full range of eating disorders and/or compulsive addictive disorders.
